Ubogo Community Demands Field Logistics Base Siting, Rejects Proposed ICT Project

The President of Ubogo Community, Comrade Henry Kula, has reaffirmed the community’s unwavering demand for the siting of the Field Logistics Base (FLB) for Abura Field Wells 6 and 9 within Ubogo, describing the choice as deliberate, strategic, and long-standing.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Kula explained that Ubogo has, over the years, served as a primarily residential and operational hub for oil and gas activities within OML 65 and partly OML 34. According to him, the community’s central location within the operational area makes it the most suitable and accessible site for the FLB which would enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.

He emphasized that hosting the FLB would significantly boost local economic development, create employment opportunities for indigenes, and further strengthen relations between the community and oil companies.

Kula used the opportunity to appeal to the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Okporua I, to lend royal support towards the realization of the project, describing it as a collective aspiration of the Ubogo people.

“We have concluded as a community that the FLB is what we want. We do not want ICT. This is our position, and it is non-negotiable,” Kula stated.

Echoing the community’s position, the Deputy Leader of the Legislative Arm of Udu Local Government Council, Hon. Henry Eterhi, alongside a prominent opinion leader, Evangelist Godwin Ogbolu called on both the monarch and the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to heed the community’s demand and approve the siting of the FLB in Ubogo.

They stressed that the demand reflects the collective will of the people and aligns with the economic realities and developmental needs of the area.

In the same vein, women of the community expressed strong support for the project, noting that the establishment of the FLB would improve their standard of living and provide sustainable livelihoods.

“We have been advocating for this for a long time. This is what we need. It will uplift our people and bring development to our community,” a representative of the women said.

The community further assured stakeholders of its continued peaceful disposition, pledging to maintain its reputation as a stable and cooperative host community if the project is sited in Ubogo.

The people reiterated their appeal to NNPCL and the Udu traditional institution to consider their plight and grant their request, maintaining that the FLB project remains their top priority and a non-negotiable demand.
